It focuses on the social well-being of the community and complements the religious and educational programs by promoting unity, support, and engagement.
Key Roles and Responsibilities of a Mosque Social Committee
1. Organize Social Events
- Plan and host events that bring the community together, such as:
- Eid celebrations
- Ramadan iftar dinners
- Family nights
- BBQs or picnics
- Game nights or movie screenings
- Community dinners or potlucks
- Create events for all age groups (youth, adults, seniors, families).
2. Foster Community Bonding
- Promote friendships, collaboration, and a sense of belonging within the mosque.
- Help newcomers or converts feel included and welcomed.
- Organize “meet and greet” sessions, buddy systems, or welcoming teams.
3. Coordinate Hospitality and Care
- Arrange hospitality for special guests or speakers.
- Coordinate food, refreshments, decorations, and logistics for mosque events.
- Visit and support community members during life events (e.g., births, marriages, illness, funerals).
4. Serve Specific Groups
- Organize events tailored for:
- Seniors (tea socials, health sessions)
- Youth (sports, hangouts, camps)
- Women (craft nights, wellness events)
- Families (game nights, parenting talks)
5. Support and Inclusivity
- Celebrate important milestones for community members (graduations, achievements).
- Create inclusive spaces for diverse ethnic and cultural groups within the community.
- Assist with integration of new members, especially reverts or immigrants.
6. Event Planning and Coordination
- Plan event calendars in coordination with other mosque committees (Da’wah, Youth, etc.).
- Manage logistics: venue setup, volunteers, registration, food, and clean-up.
- Promote events through flyers, announcements, and social media (with the help of the Social Media Committee).
7. Gather Feedback and Improve Engagement
- Collect feedback after events to understand community needs and preferences.
- Adapt events to increase participation and effectiveness.
