The Custodial Committee focuses specifically on the cleanliness, upkeep, and day-to-day readiness of the mosque environment. While the Facilities Committee may deal with broader building systems and infrastructure, the Custodial Committee ensures the mosque is clean, orderly, and welcoming at all times.
Here’s a breakdown of the Custodial Committee’s main roles and responsibilities:
1. Cleaning and Sanitation Oversight
- Ensure all areas of the mosque—prayer halls, restrooms, wudu (ablution) areas, classrooms, offices—are regularly cleaned and sanitized.
- Schedule daily and deep cleaning routines.
- Supervise cleaning staff or volunteers.
2. Supplies and Inventory Management
- Monitor and restock essential janitorial supplies (soap, paper towels, toilet paper, cleaning agents, etc.).
- Maintain inventory of cleaning equipment (vacuum cleaners, mops, etc.).
- Ensure proper storage of cleaning materials, following safety guidelines.
3. Readiness for Prayers and Events
- Ensure prayer spaces are clean and ready before every prayer time, especially Jumu’ah, Taraweeh, and Eid.
- Maintain clean carpets, prayer rugs, and shoe racks.
- Coordinate extra cleaning before and after events, classes, and community programs.
4. Restroom and Wudu Area Maintenance
- Prioritize the cleanliness of restrooms and ablution areas.
- Ensure these areas are regularly disinfected and supplied.
- Address cleanliness-related issues quickly.
5. Supervision and Training
- Oversee janitorial staff or custodial volunteers.
- Provide basic training on cleaning protocols, respectful conduct in a religious space, and handling supplies.
6. Support for Health and Safety
- Ensure the cleanliness meets public health and hygiene standards.
- Implement extra precautions during flu season or pandemics.
- Coordinate with the Facilities or Safety Committee when needed (e.g., for biohazard spills, pest control).
7. Budget and Reporting
- Help manage the custodial budget (supplies, staffing, equipment).
- Report issues or needed upgrades to the mosque administration or Facilities Committee.
Summary:
