The Education Committee is responsible for planning, overseeing, and improving all Islamic educational programs within the mosque. Its mission is to promote Islamic knowledge and learning for all age groups in the community—children, youth, adults, and new Muslims—by organizing structured programs, classes, and events rooted in authentic Islamic teachings.
Key Roles and Responsibilities of a Mosque Education Committee
1. Plan and Oversee Islamic Educational Programs
- Develop and manage regular classes and study circles (halaqas) on:
- Qur’an (reading, tajweed, tafsir)
- Seerah (life of the Prophet ﷺ)
- Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence)
- Aqeedah (beliefs)
- Islamic history and ethics
- Organize weekend schools or after-school programs for children and teens.
2. Recruit and Support Qualified Teachers
- Hire or vet qualified Islamic teachers, imams, and scholars.
- Provide guidance, resources, and training opportunities for educators.
- Maintain teacher schedules, contracts, and feedback processes.
3. Organize Educational Events and Workshops
- Host public lectures, seminars, and guest speaker events.
- Plan themed workshops (e.g. marriage in Islam, parenting, youth issues, zakat, etc.).
- Offer crash courses during Ramadan, Hajj season, or other key times.
4. Serve Diverse Community Needs
- Offer education for different age groups and backgrounds:
- Youth programs
- Adult education
- Seniors’ sessions
- New Muslim support and orientation
- Provide classes in different languages if needed (e.g. English, Arabic, Urdu, Somali).
5. Develop Curriculum and Materials
- Design or select structured curricula for various programs (especially weekend schools).
- Provide students and teachers with books, worksheets, or online resources.
- Ensure all content aligns with authentic Islamic teachings.
6. Collaborate with Other Committees
- Work with the Da’wah Committee for educational outreach and new Muslim programs.
- Coordinate with the Youth Committee for age-appropriate programs.
- Communicate with the Social Media Committee to promote classes and events.
7. Evaluate Programs and Collect Feedback
- Gather regular feedback from students, parents, and teachers.
- Assess the success and impact of programs.
- Use data to improve scheduling, content, and delivery methods.
8. Manage Budget and Resources
- Plan and manage the education program’s budget (books, supplies, honorariums, etc.).
- Fundraise or apply for grants as needed.
- Ensure classrooms, audio-visual tools, and materials are well maintained.
