The Da’wah Committee plays a central role in fulfilling the Islamic obligation of inviting others to Islam (da’wah)—both within the Muslim community (internal da’wah) and to non-Muslims (external da’wah). This committee promotes Islamic education, outreach, interfaith dialogue, and community engagement, helping to spread the message of Islam with wisdom and compassion.
Key Roles and Responsibilities of a Mosque Da’wah Committee
1. Spreading the Message of Islam
- Organize activities to introduce Islam to non-Muslims in a respectful, informed, and inviting manner.
- Distribute literature (Qur’ans, pamphlets, books) and manage da’wah booths or tables at community events.
- Maintain a welcoming environment for visitors and those curious about Islam.
2. Supporting New Muslims (Reverts)
- Provide guidance, mentorship, and emotional support to new Muslims.
- Organize beginner classes on prayer, Islamic beliefs, etiquette, and practices.
- Help integrate reverts into the community through social events and buddy programs.
3. Organizing Da’wah Programs and Events
- Host open houses, mosque tours, interfaith dialogues, and information sessions.
- Coordinate with schools, churches, synagogues, and civic organizations to educate others about Islam.
- Plan public da’wah campaigns, seminars, and conferences.
4. Islamic Education for the Community
- Offer regular lectures, workshops, and classes on key Islamic topics to strengthen the faith of existing Muslims.
- Invite scholars and speakers to address relevant religious and social issues.
- Create youth-focused educational and da’wah initiatives.
5. Interfaith and Community Relations
- Engage in interfaith dialogues and build relationships with other religious or civic groups.
- Represent the mosque at community events, fostering understanding and cooperation.
- Promote mutual respect and clarify misconceptions about Islam.
6. Media and Online Da’wah
- Develop da’wah content for the mosque’s website, social media, or YouTube channel.
- Share informative and inspirational content online to reach broader audiences.
- Respond to online inquiries about Islam with proper knowledge and etiquette.
7. Training and Development
- Train committee members and volunteers in da’wah techniques, communication, and dealing with sensitive questions.
- Encourage wisdom (ḥikmah), good manners, and proper Islamic knowledge in all outreach efforts.
8. Reporting and Accountability
- Track activities, attendance, feedback, and da’wah materials used.
- Report outcomes to the mosque leadership or board.
- Ensure all da’wah efforts align with Islamic principles and mosque policies.
